Raman Shresta is a bookseller, publisher, inn-keeper and events curator at Gangtok’s Rachna Books, a bookshop started by his family in 1979. He has grown Rachna Books into a space for creativity and literary culture in Sikkim.
A speaker at many literary festivals, Raman has been a part of the British Council International Publishing Fellowship. He also co-directs The Rachna Books Writer’s Residency. Chuden Kabimo’s Song of the Soil, a book published by him, was shortlisted for the JCB Prize for Literature.
Under Raman’s watch, Rachna Books has become an integral part of modern Sikkim’s cultural identity, particularly for the youth.
